An Interview with Jordan Galland: Blog Critics

Jordan sat down with journalist Donald Gibson this week to discuss his upcoming projects, creative inspiration and good ol’ New York City, the place he’s called home his entire life.

Click here for the complete interview.

Much like the metropolis he’s called home for most of his life—New York City—Jordan Galland reflects an amalgam of creative energy. His backstory includes forming and fronting the indie rock band, Dopo Yume—which released four albums and toured with the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Cibo Matto—as well as having written and directed short films and stop-animation videos.

Galland channels the varied facets of his talent into Airbrush, his debut effort as a solo artist. At turns kooky and contemplative—its standout tracks include titles like “Everyone Else Is Boring” and “When The Girl Is Lying”—the album is an engaging blend of melody and shameless emotion.

Dancing Skeletons – They Always Come Back

Jordan Galland, a client of many talents, has created a series of animated music videos to accompany his debut CD, Airbrush, which was released earlier this year. Our favorite? It’s both a great pre-cursor for Halloween and kind of fantastic on the overall. Check it out below!

Michael Brauer turns to Vintage King & Barefoot Sound

Brauer_Barefoots2

Engineer and Producer Michael Brauer has completely transitioned to mixing on the Barefoot Sound MicroMain 27 Monitors that he purchased from Vintage King Audio earlier this year. A leading dealer of high-end new and vintage recording equipment, Vintage King is the exclusive dealer of Barefoot Sound equipment in the United States. The monitors are available abroad from a select list of dealers through Vintage King’s sister
company, M1 Distribution.

Brauer, an established A-list mixing engineer known for his eclectic, highly acclaimed
discography, has worked with The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, My Morning Jacket, Ben Folds and John Mayer to name an incredibly select few. Currently, Brauer is back in the studio mixing a batch of songs from John Mayer, using the Barefoot MM27’s on the session.

“Unlike many other pieces of gear, monitors are a very personal choice,” says Michael Brauer. “I’ve been mixing on one set of midfields for the past 20 years. During that time I’ve A/B’d them against most of the popular contenders, but none showed the potential to improve my mixes until Mike Nehra at Vintage King asked me to try a set of Barefoot MM27’s. As a large midfield monitor they offered me an accurate response from a big bottom, warm, punchy midrange to a wide clear top end, at both low and high playback levels, something that my present midfields didn’t do well.”

New Band Alert: We Are The Willows

Some great things are happening on the Midwest music scene and We Are The Willows is most definitely one of them. We’re happy to be working with our friends at Amble Down Records on the launch of We Are The Willows’ debut album, A Collection of Sounds and Something Like the Plague, set for release November 24th.

We Are The Willows is the solo-project of musician Peter Michael Miller. Recorded in a basement and all over the city of Minneapolis (where Miller currently lives) with nothing more than a laptop and a few sketchy microphones, A Collection Of Sounds And Something Like the Plague is directly constructed from and inspired by the noise of one’s surroundings.

In addition to the forthcoming full-length, Amble Down will also release a four-song, digital only EP on October 6th entitled A Family. A Tree. The EP will feature the first single from A Collection Of Sounds And Something Like the Plague as well as three additional tracks. A Family. A Tree. will be available for free download, or on a pay-what you-can basis.

Check out the first single, “A Funeral Dressed As A Birthday,” here.
